Consecutive Master (4+1)

The International 4+1 Program with University of New Mexico leads students to the award of both the Bachelor of Engineering - BSc from UTEC and a Master of Science - MSc from UNM, simultaneously. You will complete the first four years of study in UTEC and apply to UNM Graduate School of Engineering for admission to one of their designated Masters programs. The first four years will be spent in Lima, while the last year of your Masters degree will be developed in Albuquerque.

*Deadline: Application timelines are governed by the deadlines established by each master’s program at UNM. Applications will be reviewed to confirm that candidates meet the deadlines and requirements of their intended master’s program at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Specific deadlines for each UNM master’s program can be found on the official website of UNM’s Graduate School of Engineering.

The UTEC undergraduate student have to check the list of Graduate programs offered by University of New Mexico - School of Engineering and their concentrations on this website. You can apply to a program that differs from one you’re currently enrolled at UTEC:

Then, the student has to find out how their credits will transfer. We recommend you to talk with your Academic Director to understand how your Academic Department transfers credits from courses taken abroad.
PROGRAM COST
Please note that this program involves three main cost components:
- Tuition fees at the host institution (UNM).
- Living expenses during the stay in the host country.
- Credit validation fees at UTEC, according to the current payment scale.

Elegibility
- Applicants must be a full time-current student at UTEC during all the process.
- Applicants must have approved have approved at least 160 credits + Proyecto Preprofesional Course (RLE)
- Applicants must possess a 13.00 GPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) or better.
- As an applicant, you must demonstrate an excellent level of verbal and written English proficiency (all program applicants are required to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Dolingo English Test certification).
The following applicants are ineligible: UTEC students with a grave disciplinary sanction or suspension from the university and/or with outstanding debts to the institution.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON A LEAVE OF ABSENCE, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE IN GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING AT TIME OF PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROGRAM. IN SOME CASES, RECENT GRADUATING STUDENTS ARE CONSIDERED FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM SUBJECT TO A PARTICIPATION FEE.

GATHER THESE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
In order to apply, you will be asked to fill out an Online Application Form and attach only the following required documentation:
Your personal statement written in English. Addressed to the UTEC Internationalization Office.
- ► Motivational Essay in English addressed to the UTEC Internationalization Office (1-2 pages max)
- ► Undocumented Curriculum Vitae/Resume in English (1-2 pages max)
- ► Transcript of Records, your current unofficial transcript of record (Edu system print is valid)
- ► English language proficiency certification such as TOEFL, IELTS academic or Duolingo Test

* TOEFL with a score of at least 79 (4.5) for the internet-based (iBT). The minimum sub-score for each section of the TOEFL iBT is 20. IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher, with at least 6.0 in each section. Duolingo English Test score 0f 105 or higher. *TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo English Test scores are valid only if dated within two years of the application deadline. Your application is not complete without one of these test scores.
- ► Three recommendation letter addressed to University of new Mexico:

*2 letters from current full-time UTEC faculty. Preferably, faculty who have taught you concentration courses in your undergraduate program.
*1 letter from an international faculty member who taught you a course or with whom you developed a research project during your exchange program. If the applicant did not participate in an exchange, the letter must be issued by a faculty member from the home university with whom the applicant developed a research project.
*The letters must include the faculty’s name, position, email, telephone number and it can be written in Spanish or English language.
The professors will send the recommendation letter to the following email: Exchange@utec.edu.pe with the subject: Recommendation Letter (Students name).

Selection Criteria
WAIT FOR AN IN-PERSON INTERVIEW
After you submit your application, there will be a pre-selection process. If you are eligible, you will be called to a psycho-pedagogical evaluation and asked to sign up for an in-person interview. Interviews will be conducted in English. This is the most important part of the process.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The International Selection Committee seeks the most promising UTEC students in terms of academic background, demonstrated leadership and personal qualities and contributions.
The UTEC Committee bases the evaluation on the totality of information available and considering the following criteria and aspects:
- ► Your academic merits and overall credentials.
- ► Your level of verbal and written English.
- ► The quality of critical thought in the application essay.
- ► The support you have received from UTEC faculty.
- ► Your level of communication and soft skills. Remember that we want to understand your personal and academic motivation.
- ► Your involvement in extracurricular activities and international programs and initiatives as well as your experience in research.
- ► How you have developed your talents is as important as what you have accomplished. The Committee evaluates your past actions because they usually are the best predictor of future behavior.
After the personal interview, the Internationalization Office will contact selected candidates by email with instructions for student's acceptance. Selected students are required to accept or deny the position offered abroad by sending an email.
UNM Application Process
UTEC pre-selected students must apply to UNM following these general requirements:
- ► International admissions application
- ► Estimated cost of attendance (subject to annual variation)
- ► Pay an application fee
- ► Official English language proficiency results from either the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE-Academic, or Cambridge CPE or CAE ( English Proficiency Scores)
- ► Official academic transcripts and degree certificates and with official English translations, if necessary, from all post-secondary institutions attended
- ► Financial Responsibility form and official bank statements
As part of the process, pre-selected students will be requested to present the GRE exam
