What is the TOEFL ITP®?

The TOEFL ITP® or Test of English as a Foreign Language – Institutional Testing Program is the simplified ‘paper’ version of the TOEFL IBT® (“Internet Base Test”).

The TOEFL ITP® certificate is recognized internationally and is one of the most popular language evaluations in the world.

What skills does the TOEFL ITP® test measure?

The TOEFL ITP® test measures skills in the three following areas:

  • • Listening Comprehension skills are essential when communicating in face-to-face situations, meetings, videoconferences, podcasts and conversations over the phone in a professional context.
  • • Structure and Written Expression measure recognition of selected structural and grammatical points in standard written English.
  • • Reading Comprehension skills measure the ability to read and understand academic reading material in English.

TOEFL ITP® scores are valid for two years, after you take the test. Because language proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time, scores more than two years old cannot be reported or verified.  (
