The Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología - UTEC and The Higher Technological Institute - TECSUP joined as exhibitors with their own booth, this year in largest international education conference. The Association of International Educators, better known as NAFSA, was held at The Walter E. Washington Convention Center and brought together thousands of international educators from more than 100 countries around the world.
The main topic of NAFSA 75 was “inspiring and inclusive future” which is based on the opportunity that we have as a society to advance international education within a framework of diversity and new pathways to a more equitable, sustainable and inclusive tomorrow, fostering the understanding and respect among people of diverse origins and genders.
“This conference allows us to connect with our peers like The University of New Mexico, IE University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires among others. As well as experts as Times Higher Education, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, TOEFL® and explore amazing new opportunities for cooperation with potential partners such as the University of Waterloo, University of California, Davis, University of California, Berkeley, University of Queensland, University of Tsukuba and many more. Addittionally, this year we were accompanied by our strategic partner University of Alberta with Carlos Montes, and we met with the representatives of the Vice Minister of Pedagogical Management of the Ministry of Education, the Embassy of Peru in Washington and the Embassy of United States of America in Lima.” said Patricia Orbegoso, Head of Internationalization.
NAFSA represents an opportunity to learn about sustainable strategies for global education and discover new innovative programs. On this occasion our representatives met with different higher education institutions from Argentina, Canada, Germany, France, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and USA. Without any doubt it is a crucial space to strengthen internationalization and develop new agreements that will provide different opportunities for our students.
“TECSUP is the first higher technological institute in Peru to attend this international conference. For us, being part of NAFSA has allowed us to connect with different institutions around the globe. This event opens the doors to different ways of collaboration that will benefit both our students and faculty. We are thrilled to show and share the talent of our community.” said Andrea Lazo, Head of TECSUP Virtual.
The experience has been gratifying, considering that this year The Ministry of Education of Peru and The Embassy of Peru in the United States joined us, as part of the Peruvian delegation. Our booth had the pleased visit of Mr. Irvine Jaime, Deputy Chief of Mission and Mr. Guillermo Arévalo, First Secretary of the Embassy of Peru in the United States, as well as Mrs. Miriam Ponce Vértiz, Vice Minister of Pedagogical Management of the Ministry of Education of Peru and Mr. Hugo Condori Melendez, Director of Policies for the Development and Quality Assurance of University Higher Education. With this opportunity we could present our main strategies and objectives for the internationalization in our institutions. We hope that the collaboration between higher education institutions and the government will be a sustained initiative to promote and maintain in the following editions of NAFSA.
“I am amazed by the amount and quality of connections that can be made in this conference. Especially to develop future agreements or programs between different international universities. I wish to continue seeing UTEC and TECSUP at different international fairs and to continue to welcome more Peruvian students at the University of Alberta.” said Carlos Montes, International Engineering Development Manager, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Alberta.
Currently, UTEC has more than 40 global alliances with prestigious institutions around the world. To date, more than 970 UTEC students had a global educational experience and more than 325 international students had an academic experience at UTEC.
